Time Strategies

 Time Management

Time management is an important thing throughout the semester whenever you are a student trying to balance school, work, and social life. I like the custom schedule this class creates because time management helps you get a good grade and I think a custom schedule every week can help any student regardless if they are in this class or not.

The first article I read was about the 4 questions to help overcome procrastination. I liked this article because it gave you 4 simple questions to help you be more productive during the day. If I asked myself these questions then I feel like my day would be more productive.

The second article I read was about how to beat procrastination. This article was helpful because it gave a lot of tips on how to beat procrastination. Some smaller than others but even the lesser tips would still help.

Technology

 Class Technology Tools

For this class, I'm pretty familiar with everything except for website publishing. I wasn't familiar with blogging but now that I have used it a few times now I can navigate around the website. Everything else is useful information. I even had a spell checker installed already on chrome, but the word counter idea was really helpful in writing these blogs.

Assignments

First Impressions
I took this class because my friend took it last semester and he said he enjoyed it. Looking at the layout of the class is interesting because the schedule and workload seem to be the same every week. It's different from pretty much every class I've taken because it is asynchronous so it lets me be more flexible. I think the blog comments assignments will be interesting since we will start interacting and getting to know each other. The extra credit assignment that seems the most interesting is the famous last words. I think reflecting at the end of the week is a good way to approach a class and keep up with it all.

Growth Mindset

 Growth Mindset

Coming into this class I had never heard of Carol Dweck. I had heard the term growth mindset but never really looked into what it was or what it meant. Now that I know what growth mindset is, it made me look at the way I have gone through school and if there was any growth mindset promoted. Throughout school, growth mindset hasn't really been promoted. It was either you understood and passed or you didn't and failed. Most kids did whatever they could to get through school whether that be actually studying or cheating their way through. I think that growth mindset is a good way for students to be actively engaged in learning and not make them want to give up as easily. The statistics that Carol Dweck brought up proved that growth mindset can be extremely beneficial at school, especially is less fortunate and widely known areas where kids tend to struggle.

Introduction to Ryan the MIS Major

 Introduction

My name is Ryan Hernandez and I was born and raised just 45 minutes from OU in Edmond, Oklahoma. Growing up my parents were fans of OU and my dad went here so it was an easy decision when I decided where I wanted to go to school. It's nice being able to be far enough away from home where I can experience freedom but also if I need to go home it is just a short drive.

I am in my Senior year at OU but I will be graduating in the fall of 2021. If you would have told me I'll graduate in 4 1/2 years when I finished freshman year I would have taken that all day. I didn't even know my major until halfway through the first semester of Junior year. Then I decided on Management Informations Systems (MIS) in the college of business. I would like to think that I am decent with technology and computers so this major made sense to me. The cool thing about being an MIS major is that with the way the world is moving today, technology-related jobs will continue to be needed so hopefully getting a job will not be difficult coming out of school. My career goals for the short-term is to get a job and save up a decent amount of money so that I can open something or invest in something where I don't have to work for someone else.

Some hobbies I enjoy are golfing, fishing, playing video games, and playing poker with my friends. The hobby I enjoy the most is probably golf. Even though I'm just okay at golf, I still have fun playing. Over quarantine and winter break I tried to play at least two times a week. Good bass fishing season is coming up though so I will have to get back into that. It's just been so cold recently that you have to be really dedicated to go out and fish. I just learned how to play poker at the start of last semester because my roommate played all the time and then I got hooked on it. Thankfully we only play $5 buy-ins because I'm still trying to get better.

3 Favorite Storybooks

Sonali's Storybook

I chose this story because it is about coming into freshmen year at OU. It's been four years since I had to do it, so I thought this would be a good way to try and reminisce about stepping foot on campus on that first day. The introduction does a good job of taking you through the move-in process and setting up the rest of the story by mentioning the haunted part. Overall, the website does a good job and is laid out neatly to understand what is going on.

Bo Peep's Sheep

The reason I chose this story is that it was the only name I had recognized, and that is only thanks to the Toy Story movies. Even in the Toy Story movie Bo Peep always has her sheep with her so I figured that the story would be about that when I initially found it. Then the title and the introduction confirmed it. The name "Bo Peep's Sheep" would be about nothing else, and when I came to read the introduction, sure enough, it was about Bo Peep losing her sheep. Also, I like the layout of this website. It gives it that warm kid's storybook feels with the font, background, and imagery used.

Upon reading the title, I thought this would be some sort of historical story that takes place in Vietnam. After reading the introduction, you quickly learn that the story doesn't even take place in Vietnam and is not historical at all. I realized that these are stories that used to be told in Vietnam. I do like how the story was set up in the introduction. And the website is also laid out very nicely. I like the color scheme used, it's very cool and calming.

Favorite Place - Colorado Mountains

Favorite Place - Colorado Mountains

For my favorite place, I chose the mountains in Colorado. I have been to Colorado around five times since the fall whether it be for camping or skiing. The scenery is beautiful and I just really love being outdoors and enjoying nature.
